Subject: Lest we forget
Dear Mr. Harper;
As a 33 year veteran I would say that the greatest support and honour you can give to veterans is to work to ensure that we do not continue to inflict the suffering of war on our soldiers and their families, or others, ever again. Once people are hurting it is too late, and words sound hollow.
I implore you to make Canada once again a nation of peace, and not a nation of war as we seem to be now, as a response to conflict in the world. If you can do one thing to honour veterans, that would be to create a Department of Peace that can give us other options than killing and suffering. We do not give peacemaking anywhere near the chance it deserves, or that veterans deserve for what they have gone through.
We do not seem to learn. To honour veterans, I ask you to work for peace. Only your actions will speak and then words will be quite unnecessary.
